Three Lagos Residents Recovered Dead In Building Collapse In Ikorodu

Three individuals who were trapped under the rubble of a collapsed two-storey building under construction at Otta Ona Junction, near the Mobil Filling Station Bus Stop in Ikorodu, Lagos State, have been confirmed dead.

Earlier reports by the media indicated that one person was initially confirmed dead, three were trapped, and nine adult males were successfully rescued from the collapsed structure.

The tragic incident occurred at approximately 2pm on Tuesday, prompting a swift response from multiple emergency units.

In an update on Wednesday, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed that the three people who had been trapped under the collapsed building were recovered dead.

According to LASEMA, the deceased include two adult males and a teenage girl.

The report noted that the bodies have been handed over to the Igbogbo Police Station for further investigation, while the cause of the collapse remains unknown. 

The update partly reads: “Following distress alerts, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans from Agbowa, Alausa, and Cappa.

“Upon arrival of the Agency’s Lion, Tiger, and Eagle Response Teams at the incident scene, it was discovered that a two-storey building under construction had collapsed, with three victims trapped under the debris at the aforementioned location.

“The cause of the collapsed building is yet to be ascertained at the time of writing this report.

“The three people trapped under the collapsed building have been recovered dead.

“Nine adult males were successfully rescued and attended to by LASEMA’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit.

“The Agency’s heavy-duty equipment, including an excavator, was deployed to aid in the quick rescue of victims trapped beneath the collapsed structure.

“The Agency’s floodlights were also deployed to illuminate the incident scene.

“The search and rescue operation is still ongoing. Three bodies have been recovered so far, including two adult males and a teenage female.

“All the bodies have been handed over to the Igbogbo Police Station. The affected building is in the process of being deconstructed to ground zero to ensure the safety of people and the environment.”
