President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appeared to sideline Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during the official commissioning of a completed segment of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on Saturday.

The incident occurred at the inauguration of the first section of Phase 1 — a 30-kilometre stretch of the 750-kilometre, six-lane coastal highway — where President Tinubu acknowledged several attending governors with handshakes but noticeably skipped Sanwo-Olu.

The move has sparked speculation, given Sanwo-Olu’s long-standing political ties to Tinubu, widely regarded as his political mentor.

Present at the ceremony were Governors Duoye Diri of Bayelsa, Monday Okpebholo of Edo, and Usman Ododo of Kogi.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is one of the present government’s ambitious infrastructure projects. Spanning approximately 700 kilometres upon completion, the highway is expected to connect Lagos to Calabar in Cross River State, passing through Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States.
