A newly constructed 300-bed specialist hospital in Kaduna State has been named after Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, amid growing discontent over the country’s current socio-economic situation.
The facility, located in Millennium City, Kaduna, the state capital, was unveiled on Thursday by Governor Uba Sani, who christened it the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital.
The hospital is one of the most recent major health projects undertaken by the Kaduna State government under the current administration.
During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Sani lavished praise on the President, attributing his inspiration and achievements in Kaduna to the leadership of Tinubu.
“Your leadership is a beacon of light; it is working, it is changing lives,” Sani declared while addressing the audience.
“I also want to request your intervention to build a cancer centre here, Mr President. That is the only thing that is missing.”
President Tinubu, in response, praised the Kaduna governor for his vision and commitment to development.
“I have no long comment but to assure you that we have witnessed progress, you have prioritised people. It is only a far-sighted leader who cares about his people that can care about their healthcare needs, about their skills development and keeping them happy. I am very proud of what you are doing,” the President said.
The naming of the hospital comes amid rising economic hardship and growing discontent nationwide.
This is coming nine days after Abuja International Conference Centre, built in 1991, was renamed after him by the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
The event, held in the Federal Capital Territory, was attended by key government figures, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and other top officials.
During his speech at the ceremony, Wike had attempted to justify the controversial decision to rename the centre after Tinubu, attributing the successful renovation to the President’s leadership.
He said, “It is important for the public to know and understand why this is called Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre. This conference centre was built in 1991 under the military government.
“Since that time, nothing has happened to this International Conference Centre. Last year, July/August, you (Tinubu) came here to inaugurate the ECOWAS Parliament. It is an embarrassment for a country to still have this as an international conference (centre) then, and you said, ‘how can we have this’? That shows leadership.”
