Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has reacted to the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a “criminal” who once tried to assassinate him.
Speaking shortly after the announcement of Buhari’s death on Sunday in London, the United Kingdom, Igboho accused the late president of ordering the Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigerian military personnel to invade his Ibadan residence in the middle of the night.
He recalled the midnight raid on his Ibadan residence on July 1, 2021, during which security forces stormed his home after he began advocating for the Yoruba Nation. Several people were reportedly killed in the attack, though Igboho managed to escape.
According to him, the invasion was an attempt to assassinate him for advocating for the Yoruba Nation.
“Can you see life?” he said to his supporters, adding that the same Buhari who sent the DSS and soldiers to kill him in his sleep was now gone.
He also accused some Yoruba collaborators of supporting the operation.
He said, “Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, I thank God for my life today. My people, Buhari has died, see life. The Buhari criminal man that sent DSS and military to come and kill me in the middle of the night on July 1st, 2021.
“He died today (Sunday), see life. My people we suppose to learn about his death, that criminal man ‘Muhammadu Buhari ‘ have died and see I’m still alive today. I thank God, God thank you for sparing my life till today (He died today (Sunday). Such is life. My people, we ought to reflect on his death. That criminal man, Muhammadu Buhari, is gone—and yet here I am, still alive today. I thank God. Lord, thank You for sparing my life until this moment).
“Criminal Fulani man that is with some stupid Yoruba people who gang up and come to my house in the middle of the night and try to take my life. However, God said no, if God said yes nobody can say no but God said no. See life, Buhari has died today, see God, God I thank you,” Igboho added.
On August 31, 2021, SaharaReporters reported that Pelumi Olajengbesi, the lawyer representing the 12 associates of Igboho, accused DSS operatives of killing unarmed persons during the raid on Igboho’s residence.
The DSS had invaded Igboho’s residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, killing two of his associates, whom the secret police claimed were armed.
The secret police later paraded no fewer than 12 suspects arrested during the operation, who were detained for months. Some of the items allegedly carted away from his house included passports, charms, guns, and cash.
