Fatima Buhari, the first daughter of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, arrived at his Daura residence on Tuesday visibly emotional as preparations for his burial were underway.
Overcome with grief, Fatima was seen in tears and being consoled by family members and close friends, including APC stalwart Maryam Shettima.
Other members of the Buhari family have also gathered at the Daura home of the former president.
Buhari is set to be laid to rest today at his residence following funeral prayers scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Emir’s palace.
In other news…. Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has described President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint Nyesom Wike as a minister as his “biggest political mistake.”
Speaking during an interview with Arise TV on Monday, the senator took aim at Wike’s leadership style, labeling it autocratic and accusing him of consistently violating constitutional norms.
In her words:
“The primary thing is that the minister doesn’t obey the rule of law. He’s autocratic. He doesn’t follow any rules or any laws. And when you try to draw his attention that governance is based on laws, the rule of law, he doesn’t accept that.”
Kingibe also raised concerns over what she called the illegal revival of defunct government agencies by the minister, stating that such actions were taken without legislative approval.
“Minister Nyesom Wike has brought back agencies without the enabling laws. If he wants these things, he should ask the national assembly to create the enabling laws. But he doesn’t, because he’s just autocratic. He feels, ‘I can do anything,’” she added.
Senator Ireti Kingibe has raised serious allegations against FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, accusing him of unlawfully revoking land previously allocated to the University of Abuja. She claimed that out of the 11,000 hectares granted to the institution, 7,000 have been taken back, which she insists is a breach of the Land Use Act.
“Abuja University had approximately 11,000 hectares. Minister Wike has revoked 7,000 of it and left them with four. It is definitely against the Land Use Act for you to take land from institutions to give them to individuals,” Kingibe stated.
She went on to criticize Wike’s policies, noting that they have led to job losses and growing frustration among residents in the capital.
“Every minister has come and found the streets being cleaned by indigent women. Even when some ministers come and want to bring mechanical street sweepers, we say No. This is a source of livelihood for our indigent women, widows and other underprivileged women.
“He comes, he’s fired them all… Then he doesn’t replace them with mechanical street sweepers. So, Abuja is looking dirty,” she said.
Kingibe also expressed disapproval over President Bola Tinubu’s decision to give Wike a prominent role in his cabinet, saying it has harmed the president politically.
“It’s my personal opinion that that is rather unfortunate, because if I were making a list of all the things that President Tinubu has done wrong, the greatest wrong he’s done to himself, the thing that has demarcated him the most has been on Minister Wike,” she asserted.
