Mohammed Babangida, son of former Nigerian leader Ibrahim Babangida, has formally declined his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, as announced in a letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In the letter, Babangida expressed gratitude for the honor but stated, after careful reflection and consultation, that he must respectfully decline the role.
He cited personal and professional considerations, noting that his current commitments would not allow him to serve with the required level of focus and dedication.
Babangida reaffirmed his commitment to the vision of a prosperous and self-sufficient Nigeria under Tinubu’s leadership, offering his support for national development in other capacities where his expertise may be beneficial. The decision has sparked reactions, with some hailing it as a rejection of a “Greek gift,” as noted in social media commentary accompanying the letter.
