The Adamawa State Government has budgeted a sum of N2.9 billion for the purchase of 42 SUVs, according to a the media review of the budget documents.

Further review shows that, during the same period, the state generated N7.987 billion as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
This implies that 18.27% of the state’s IGR for the first half of 2025 was used to purchase SUVs.
Already, the state government has bought 23 SUVs for judicial officers.
The governor of the state, Umaru Fintiri, posted photos of the luxurious SUVs on his official X handle on Thursday.
“I have today handed over 23 brand new SUVs to our judiciary officers as part of our unwavering commitment to strengthening the justice system in Adamawa State,” he said.
“We remain focused on building institutions that work, and a judiciary that delivers justice without fear or favour.”
The development drew condemnation on X.

Further review of the Adamawa State budget performance document shows that N521.3 million was spent on refreshments and meals.
In September 2024, the State Commissioner for Health, Chief Felix Tangwami, announced an outbreak of cholera in a statement in Yola.
He stated in the release that out of 50 samples of suspected cases, 30 tested positive.
Tangwami said that six of the deaths were recorded at a facility, another six occurred at home, while 308 people were admitted, 244 of whom were treated and discharged.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that 86% of households in the state lack access to sanitary facilities, while 38% lack access to clean drinking water. Additionally, 43% of children in the state lack access to education.
The state budgeted N5.5 million for drilling a borehole and installing water tanks. This means the N2.9 billion earmarked for 42 SUVs could complete 527 such borehole projects.
The state also budgeted N30 million to construct one public toilet; the amount budgeted for the SUVs could fund the construction of 96 such public toilets.
It budgeted N35.987 million for the construction of three classrooms with an office, meaning the SUV budget could instead build about 80 such classroom structures.
