Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has ordered the immediate shutdown of Badeggi FM Radio Station, accusing the media outlet of airing unethical broadcasts and inciting public unrest.
The directive was issued during an expanded APC caucus meeting held at the Government House in Minna, where Governor Bago accused the radio station of inciting the public against the government. He further ordered the revocation of the station’s operating license.
According to a statement issued by Bologi Ibrahim, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, the governor described the station’s daily operations as “unethical” and “capable of fueling violence.”
He also alleged that the station’s owner was actively promoting anti-government sentiments.
“The daily activities of the radio station have been unethical,” the governor said. “The owner of the station has incited the people against the government. Therefore, the license of the radio station should be revoked.”
Bago has directed the Commissioner for Homeland Security and the Commissioner of Police to seal off the station and conduct a thorough profile of its owner.
He emphasized the need for security agencies to act swiftly in curbing activities he considers a threat to public peace.
