The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, The Most Rev’d Dr. Henry Ndukuba, made the announcement during his keynote address at the ongoing Anglican Chancellors, Registrars and Legal Officers Conference (ACRLOC), held at St. Matthias House, Gudu, Abuja.
The Anglican Church of Nigeria has announced the severance of all ties with the Church in Wales over the election of Rt. Rev. Cherry Vann, a lesbian, as the Archbishop of Wales.
The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, The Most Rev’d Dr. Henry Ndukuba, made the announcement during his keynote address at the ongoing Anglican Chancellors, Registrars and Legal Officers Conference (ACRLOC), held at St. Matthias House, Gudu, Abuja.
Archbishop Ndukuba described the development as a continued departure from biblical truth and moral authority, condemning the election as a violation of scriptural teaching.
“We are more resolute and committed to the stance of the Church of Nigeria against homosexuality and heretical teachings in the communion. What they call wisdom and culture is an abomination before God.
“The election of the Right Reverend Cherry Vann as the Archbishop of Wales is never recognized by the Church of Nigeria. We reject it. We are severing every tie and relationship with the Church of Wales,” he said.
He reaffirmed the Church of Nigeria’s commitment to orthodox Anglican networks such as GAFCON, and to partnerships with churches in Rwanda, Uganda, and others sharing similar values.
“There is no turning back. We shall continue to focus on mission, evangelism, discipleship, and preparing the Church for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ,” he added.
Addressing legal officers at the conference, the Primate urged them to stand as biblical watchmen in both Church and society, insisting that moral and doctrinal silence in critical times amounts to complicity.
“The watchman must be courageous. If he fails to warn the people, blood is on his hands. Likewise, you must speak when truth is under threat, even when legal correctness conflicts with godly conviction,” Ndukuba noted.
He commended the legal professionals for their dedication — many of whom serve without pay — and encouraged them to remain spiritually grounded while carrying out their responsibilities.
During the event, the Church celebrated the elevation of some of its legal officers to the ranks of Judges and Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), and offered condolences to members who had recently suffered bereavement.
“The gates of hell shall not prevail against us. We press on with perseverance and hope, trusting that He who began this good work will bring it to completion,” Ndukuba stated.
