A Nigerian has expressed concerns over the deplorable state of sections of the newly constructed Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, citing poor drainage systems and flood damage affecting parts of the highway.
In a video obtained, the narrator is seen showing several areas where flooding has taken over parts of the road, particularly behind the Chartered House on Ogombo Road in Ajah, near Landmark Estate and Laredia Boulevard.
The citizen questioned the lack of adequate drainage infrastructure along the route, warning that the situation, if not promptly addressed, could escalate into a major structural and safety issue.
He noted that he doesn’t know why proper drainage has not been installed. In the video, he said he just wanted to record it to show what was happening.
He asked, “Is this not going to be a problem?”
He urged the Nigerian government and the contractors handling the project to take urgent action, recommending that engineers be sent to the affected locations to rectify the faults.
According to him, “The Coastal Road. And, I don’t know the reason why, drainage has not been has not been put in its right position here. I just want to do this video to show you, Is this not gonna be a problem? Can you see it? Can you see?
“Can you see? I will advise if you can send your engineer down to come and rectify this. This is not the only place we have this. We have this on several part of the road on several parts of the road, and this is behind the chartered house Ogombo Road in Ajah, near Landmark Estate and Laredia Boulevard. I hope you can see this,” he added.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project, which has attracted national attention due to its scale and cost, is expected to span over 700 kilometers, linking major coastal cities and boosting economic activity.
However, early signs of infrastructural lapses such as those highlighted in the video have raised concerns about the quality of work and long-term sustainability of the project.
