Former Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has denied reports that he plans to contest the governorship of Lagos State under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reaffirming his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said, “I wish to publicly reaffirm my absolute and unshakable loyalty to the APC, the party under which I had the privilege of serving Lagos state as governor in 2015, and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, my leader, mentor, and a tireless champion for Nigeria’s progress.”
He urged members of the APC and Nigerians to ignore political distractions, stating, “Let it be clear: I stand solidly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress. We will work together to ensure victory in 2027 to continue delivering the dividends of democracy to all Nigerians.”
Backing Ambode, a support group, the Ambode Volunteers, led by Balogun Hameed, condemned the online publication alleging Ambode’s ADC governorship ambition.
They described it as “a calculated attempt by enemies of progress and political blackmailers masquerading as journalists to mislead the public and malign the integrity of a principled and loyal party man.”
The group recalled that despite being denied the APC governorship ticket in 2019, Ambode “has continued to stand tall, without bitterness,” and has consistently supported Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
They stressed, “For the avoidance of doubt, ADC is not, and cannot be, a vehicle for Mr. Ambode’s 2027 ambition. The APC… remains his political home and the platform for any future contest.”
Ambode Volunteers warned that the rumours are the work of “mischief-makers who are unsettled by the growing popularity of the former Governor and the widespread calls from Lagos residents for his return in 2027.”
They urged the public to disregard the fake news and focus on constructive political engagement, ensuring they have their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ready.
