Former Sokoto State governor and current senator for Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, on Friday returned to Sokoto metropolis to a rousing welcome from thousands of supporters drawn from Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states.
The massive turnout, seen by analysts as a show of political strength, signalled Tambuwal’s readiness to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Party loyalists, women’s groups, and youth organisations thronged the streets, chanting solidarity songs and waving banners calling for the APC’s removal from power.
Addressing the jubilant crowd, Tambuwal — who served as Director General of Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign — accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of deepening economic hardship, insecurity, and political instability.
“We must join forces to send APC packing in 2027. The ADC and our allies will galvanise every corner of this country to make that happen. We will not be intimidated, we will not be silenced, and we will not allow the suffering of Nigerians to continue,” he declared.
Tambuwal also dismissed recent reports about his appearance before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing it as a voluntary visit.
He denied allegations that he withdrew over ₦2 billion monthly from Sokoto State’s coffers, calling them “blatant lies” and accusing the current state government of orchestrating politically motivated witch-hunts.
“They can set up as many fake panels as they want; they will find nothing. I will not be shaken or intimidated by anybody. The truth will always stand tall,” he said.
