ASUU Gears Up for Strike as Protests Spread Across Campuses

Nigeria’s public universities may soon face fresh disruptions, as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) intensifies protests across its branches in preparation for a possible nationwide strike.

Reliable sources within the union told our correspondent on Wednesday night that the ongoing demonstrations are a prelude to industrial action that could end more than two years of uninterrupted academic activities.

A member of ASUU’s National Executive Committee (NEC), who also leads a branch in the North West, disclosed that a NEC meeting would be convened shortly to take a final decision on the strike.“We are still mobilising.

The government has been given enough time, yet nothing has changed.

The National President will call for a NEC meeting any moment from now, and I can confirm that strike is on the table,” the official stated, while faulting the Tinubu administration for what he described as a lack of seriousness in addressing lecturers’ welfare.
