Abdulmumin Jibrin, the member representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency in the House of Representatives and close ally of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) national leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said it shouldn’t come as a surprise if he dumps the party.
He also said he is old enough to take a stand independently what is best for him politically.
Speaking to DCL Hausa, the lawmaker also said he joined Kwankwasiyya as a wealthy person and has used his resources to help the movement, just as it helped him to secure his return to the red chamber in 2023.

He said, “Even the party (NNPP) itself said it is open to negotiations with other parties, so it is not necessary that I follow the direction of the party.
“I am old enough to take a stand on what is best for me,” the lawmaker added.
Jibrin however said he will continue to respect Kwankwaso as his leader, even if they are no longer in the same party.
“Even if I am not together with Kwankwaso, I will never insult him, just the way I have never insulted Ganduje even when we parted ways.
“I have never requested for any contract even though I contributed to the success of NNPP in Kano state. Kwankwasiyya has stood for me, but I have also stood for it,” he added.
The lawmaker also allëged that none of the northern political leaders helped him when he was suspended from the House of Representatives in 2016, after he accused the house leadership of budget padding.
Asked whether he is about to dump the party, Jibrin said, “Nothing is impossible. I can remain in NNPP, I can go back to APC, I can join ADC or PDP or even PRP. I can go to wherever I like. Any time I decide, I will make my position known.”
Jibrin, though in the opposition NNPP, is seen to be very close to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as he served as his campaign Director in 2023, before dumping APC to join NNPP, where he secured back his seat.
In the past few weeks, he visited Tinubu twice in the State House to discuss what he described issues of national development.
However, political analysts say the meeting may not be unconnected with his move to join the APC alongside Senator Kwankwaso.
Speaking on a Channels Television programme a few days ago, Jibrin said Kwankwaso was open to joining the APC.
