Gunmen Demand N50Million Ransom For Abducted Enugu Pharmacist, Threaten To Kill Victim If Family Calls Police

Gunmen have reportedly demanded a ransom of N50 million to release a young pharmacist, identified as Caleb.

The media gathered on Wednesday that Caleb was kidnapped on Saturday evening, around 5 p.m. His family thought he had travelled to Enugu city until late Sunday night, when his captors called to make their demand.

The kidnappers reportedly warned the family against involving security operatives; otherwise, they would carry his corpse.

According to a family source, the kidnappers made contact with the family on Sunday night, issuing the ransom demand during a brief phone call.

“The abductors warned the family against involving security operatives, threatening dire consequences if their instructions are not followed,” the source said.

The abduction has deepened the climate of fear in the Udenu axis, with locals saying criminal gangs now operate with increasing audacity. This incident follows the recent murder of Rev. Father Matthew Eya, parish priest of St Charles Catholic Church, Eha-Ndiagu, leaving residents on edge.

Additionally, Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Frank Mbah’s country home in Ezimo community, also in Udenu LGA, was attacked on September 18, 2025, where a police officer was reportedly killed.

However, the Enugu State Police Command later clarified that the incident was an armed robbery foiled by prompt police intervention, not a kidnapping attempt.

Family members and community leaders are appealing to the Enugu State Government and federal security authorities to take swift action, warning that the escalating wave of killings and kidnappings could spiral out of control if urgent and decisive action is not taken.

While the police have yet to release an official statement on the kidnapping incident, the media gathered that discreet efforts to track the abductors and secure the victim’s safe return are ongoing.
