The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, on Thursday, announced automatic employment for the children of its senior staff members who died in the inferno that gutted the Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos, on September 16, 2025.
He made the announcement at the memorial service held in Lagos in honour of the four senior staff members.
The media reports that at least ten people died in the fire incident at the high-rise building, which houses several corporate offices.
United Capital Plc, which occupies the third and fourth floors of the building, confirmed that six of its employees died in the incident.
FIRS also lost four of its staff members.
The deceased officials were: Mrs Ekelikhostse George (Assistant Director), Mr David Sunday-Jatto (Assistant Director), Mrs Nkem Onyemelukwe (Senior Manager) and Mr Peter Ifaranmaye (Manager).
They were said to have been trapped while carrying out official duties at one of the service’s offices located on the sixth and seventh floors of the high-rise building when the fire broke out.
