The Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that at Imeko in Ogun State, operatives recovered a pump-action rifle with ten live cartridges and 20 wraps of cannabis abandoned by suspected traffickers.
The Nigeria Police Force said its operatives have intercepted human traffickers and recovered firearms, smuggled vehicles, narcotics, and stolen items across different border corridors of the country.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that at Imeko in Ogun State, operatives recovered a pump-action rifle with ten live cartridges and 20 wraps of cannabis abandoned by suspected traffickers.
He explained that the clampdown also targeted trafficking syndicates, adding that at Illela, Sokoto State, a 48-year-old trafficker and an accomplice were arrested while attempting to move a 25-year-old victim into Niger Republic.
“In Bachaka, operatives intercepted four suspects, including two women, who were heading to Libya and Italy through Niger without valid documents. The victims were immediately rescued and placed under protective custody,” the statement read.
Security personnel also recorded successes against vehicle smuggling and theft.
At Jibia, Katsina State, a blue Toyota Corolla suspected to have been stolen in Niger Republic was recovered, while in Daura, another suspect was nabbed with a Toyota Carina loaded with cartons of illicit drugs. In Oyo State, a smuggled Nissan Micra from Benin Republic was also impounded. Still in Daura, police arrested a suspect with 26 stolen Android phones as he tried to cross into Niger.
In Adamawa State, a notorious cross-border burglar operating in Mubi was arrested after a series of motorcycle thefts and shop break-ins, which police said had been fueling crime across the region.
“These coordinated operations attest to the unflinching devotion of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding national security, protecting the economy, and ensuring the safety of Nigerians across all border corridors,” the statement added.
The police statement said the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, vowed that the border patrols would be intensified to break the networks of human traffickers, drug cartels and smugglers threatening the country’s security.
