The Office of the Serjeant-at-Arms at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja has notified lawmakers of reinforced security measures around the Senate Chamber, the gangway, and the corridor.
According to an internal memo obtained, dated October 2, addressed to Chairman, Senate Services and signed by Brig-Gen Etido E Ekρο (retd), the long corridor passing the front of the Senate President’s office from the White House lobby would be restricted to the senators and members of the House of Representatives.
“All aides or personal assistants would not be allowed into the said corridor,” the memo indicated.
It requested that the lawmakers should disseminate the information to their aides and personal assistants.
Titled: “notification of reinforced security measures around the senate chamber, the gangway and the corridor,” with Ref: NASS/SAA/381/S.34, Brig-Gen Ekρο explained that the move is aimed at providing a secure and safe environment for legislative duties.
“In furtherance to our quest of providing a secure and safe environment for your legislative duties, I wish to notify you that the long corridor passing the front of the Senate President’s office from the White House lobby shall be available only to Senators and Members of House of Representatives,” the memo stated.
The restrictions are set to take effect immediately, and lawmakers have been asked to intimate their aides and personal assistants accordingly.
