Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) said they have killed at least nine Boko Haram fighters and rescued two kidnap victims during coordinated clearance operations across several locations in Borno State.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by Lt Col Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, the latest operations were conducted by troops of 109 Special Forces Battalion, Magumeri, in response to credible intelligence about the movement of Boko Haram terrorists around Goni Dunari, Magumeri Local Government Area, on October 10, 2025.
The insurgents — reportedly moving in two vehicles and accompanied by 24 foot soldiers — had stormed the community, setting houses ablaze and terrorising residents before troops launched a swift fighting patrol to intercept them.
“As troops advanced towards the objective, the terrorists attempted to flee towards Damjiyakiri village,” Uba said. “Vehicle-borne fighters dispersed to an unknown location, while the foot fighters were pursued for about 92 kilometres.”
After a four-hour pursuit, troops caught up with the fleeing terrorists and launched a frontal assault, killing five fighters on the spot. The rest fled into nearby bush, leaving blood trails, suggesting more casualties.
Recovered items from the encounter include one AK-47 rifle (Reg. No. 06798), five magazines (three empty, two loaded), 31 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, an Itel mobile phone, and a dagger.
The military confirmed that no casualties or equipment losses were recorded by the troops during the operation.
In a related operation along the Gajiram–Bolori–Mile 40–Gajiganna axis, OPHK troops mounted on motorcycles engaged another group of Boko Haram fighters near Zundur village.
During the ensuing gun battle, four more terrorists were killed, while others escaped into the surrounding forest. The troops also rescued two kidnapped men, identified as 55-year-old Modu Kinnami and 57-year-old Bukar, both residents of Guzamala Local Government Area.
A sack containing ₦750,000 was found with the victims. Preliminary investigation revealed that the terrorists had demanded ₦2 million ransom and two new Tecno button phones for the release of their brother.
Items recovered from the second encounter include: One blue pickup vehicle (Reg No: GUB 327 XA); Two new Tecno button phones; One jerrycan containing 30 litres of petrol and A total of ₦4,355,000 cash.
Uba said troops had intensified further operations across all fronts to maintain pressure on the insurgents and deny them freedom of movement in the North East.
