Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, on Monday held what appeared to be his final meeting as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with his commissioners, aides, and political allies at the Government House in Enugu.
The meeting came just hours before his planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, in what observers describe as a major political realignment in the Southeast.
A video clip shared on Facebook by one of the governor’s media aides, Mr. Dan Nwomeh, showed cabinet members chanting solidarity songs and waving APC flags inside the Executive Chamber of the Government House.
Those seen in the video include the Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Lawrence Ezeh; Chairman of the Science, Technical, and Vocational Schools Management Board, Dr. Amaka S. Ngene; and the Commissioner for Labour and Employment, Dr. Felix Nnamani.
According to Nwomeh, the Enugu State Executive Council members are defecting to the APC with full enthusiasm alongside Governor Mbah.
Another video shared by Journalist KC captured the governor surrounded by his cabinet members, singing solidarity songs during what was described as a valedictory session at the Executive Chamber.
The planned defection marks a significant political shift in Enugu and the Southeast region at large, as the APC confirmed that Governor Mbah will be joined by 260 ward councillors, 24 members of the State House of Assembly, National Assembly members, and the entire state executive council.
Sources within the party said the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and other key party leaders will attend a grand reception to welcome the governor and his supporters formally.
In preparation for the mass defection, the APC has dissolved all local government and ward executives in Enugu State to pave the way for new party structures aligned with the incoming members.
