During the court session, Abdulganiyu told the presiding judge, Mr. Toyin Aluko, that he was no longer interested in the marriage.
There was confusion at an Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday when a woman, identified as Mulikat Yusuf, suddenly slumped after her husband, Ishaq Abdulganiyu, insisted on divorcing her.
During the court session, Abdulganiyu told the presiding judge, Mr. Toyin Aluko, that he was no longer interested in the marriage.
His wife, however, pleaded with the court to intervene, saying she was not ready for a divorce.
Meanwhile, Yusuf had earlier pleaded with the court to save her marriage, explaining that after giving birth to six children, she had nowhere else to go.
Moments after her husband reaffirmed his intention to end the marriage, the distraught woman walked out of the courtroom in tears and collapsed.
Court officials and sympathisers rushed to her aid and revived her by splashing water on her.
The presiding judge, Mr. Aluko, advised Yusuf to explore every possible means to reconcile with her husband and settle their differences amicably.
However, the case was adjourned until December 10 for the report of settlement or continuation of the hearing.
