A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in southern Nigeria, operating under the banner of the Wike-for-President 2027 (WFP2027) committee, convened an emergency meeting on August 21, 2025, in which they lauded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for “saving the party from imminent death” through his financial support.

The meeting, described by participants as the “authentic leadership” of the PDP in the South, was held hours after a rival gathering of southern PDP leaders in Lagos, which the committee termed “illegal” and “self-serving.”

The agenda of the meeting included discussions on the “illegal zonal meeting of the so-called Southern leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)” and the recommendation of nominees for national and zonal coordinators of the “Wike for President” campaign.

SaharaReporters learnt that those in attendance included Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, Hon. Abraham Amah, Barr. Venatius Nkem, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan, and Hon. O. K. Chinda.

Others present were Senator Igwe Nwagu, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Senator George Sekibo, Senator Mike Ama Nnachi, Rt. Hon. Onwe S. Onwe, Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha, and Barr. Mudi Erhenede.

The chairman of the WFP2027 Southern Zone committee condemned the Lagos meeting, insisting that any decisions made there would not be binding.

He accused some members of the party’s executive of being ungrateful to Governor Wike, claiming the PDP would have been extinct without the Rivers State governor’s funding of party activities.

The minutes of the meeting described as ‘top secret’ and exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters quoted the chairman as saying, “It is laughable that such an illegal contraption can call such a meeting without consulting the genuine leadership of the PDP in the southern part of Nigeria. ‘Who are they to talk on behalf of the people of the South?’

“As we all know, our leader held up PDP and saved it from imminent death by funding all its activities, but for our leader, PDP should have been extinct by now.”

He further alleged that Wike personally supported some party members’ upkeep and children’s school fees, warning that the committee could take legal action if the alleged ungratefulness continued.

“I am perplexed at the ungratefulness of the Executive and some members of this PDP because of how our principal helped them officially and individually,” he was quoted as saying.

“He further said that he knows of some who the leader is paying their upkeep and even their children’s school fees. He stated that he’s unhappy at these blatant ungrateful actions, if these things are not resolved we will go to court.”

Committee members also praised Wike’s ongoing media engagement, describing it as increasing his visibility and portraying him as a “man of action” and “Mr. Project” capable of leading Nigeria from 2027.

According to the participants, Wike’s work in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is widely admired and considered the only notable achievement of the Tinubu administration so far.

The emergency meeting concluded with a unanimous recommendation that the committee continue to publicly support Wike’s efforts and maintain solidarity ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

The minutes read in part, “The Chairman informed the meeting that a friend of his, who is a northerner, met him and praised the action of the leader and even said this is the kind of person we require to lead the country from 2027.

“A member added that the FCT has never had a minister as good as our leader, this is common knowledge. Our leader has singly transformed Abuja and is adjudged as the most cries that what the nation needs is a person as astute, functional and committed like him to lead the nation out of its problems.

“Another member said that our leader, despite those sponsored negatives in the social media, is the most visible politician in the nation today.”

“In conclusion, the meeting therefore recommended that the leader should continue with the media chat which informs Nigerians of the goings on in the capital of Nigeria, Abuja. His work in the FCT is seen by Nigerians as the only thing the Tinubu administration is doing right,” it said.
