The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced October 30 to December 31, 2025, as the official deadlines for the 2025 admission exercise across all tiers of tertiary institutions in Nigeria, warning institutions that fail to comply with the approved timelines risk losing their unprocessed candidates.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Board’s Public Communication Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB stated that the decision followed critical resolutions reached at the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, 2025, and chaired by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa.
Benjamin explained, “At the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on 18th July, 2025, and chaired by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, critical resolutions were reached regarding the timelines for the 2025 admissions exercise.”
According to Benjamin, public universities were to compulsorily complete and forward their recommendations of suitably qualified candidates who selected them as their first choice to JAMB on or before Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
On the other hand, private universities are required to submit their admission recommendations on or before Friday, 31st October, 2025, to allow sufficient time for other tiers of tertiary institutions to conduct their admissions.
Benjamin stated that the 2025 admission exercise would close on different dates for different categories of institutions.
According to him, “It was further agreed that the 2025 admission exercise would close as follows: public universities: 31st October, 2025; private universities: 30th November, 2025; and other tertiary institutions (Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, etc.): 31st December, 2025.”
Benjamin noted that the timelines were designed to ensure a structured and predictable academic calendar across all institutions and to allow every tier of tertiary education to conduct its admission process seamlessly.

However, JAMB expressed concern that several institutions had failed to comply with the set timelines despite ample notice and directives.
“Records available on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), the platform through which all admissions are conducted, revealed that some institutions have yet to submit a single admission recommendation to the Board, despite the clear directives and ample time provided,” Benjamin stated.
“It is particularly concerning that certain public universities have not made any submissions, even after the September deadline had elapsed.”
JAMB recalled that the policy meeting had expressly directed that, even where institutions were not ready to resume academic exercises, they should at least process and archive their admissions to ensure compliance with the approved schedule.
As a result, the Board specifically called out the following institutions, urging them to commence their 2025 admissions immediately.
He said, “The policy meeting had expressly directed that, even where institutions were not ready to resume academic exercises, they should at least process and archive their admissions to ensure compliance with the approved schedule.
“Consequently, the following institutions are hereby requested to commence their 2025 admissions immediately: Northwest University, Kano, Kano State; Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State; Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano State; Benue State University, Makurdi, Benue State; Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna, Niger State; Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, Kaduna State; Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, Oyo State; and Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Funtua, Katsina State.”
Benjamin warned, “The Board strongly urges these universities to commence their 2025 admission processes without further delay.
“Failure to act within the approved timelines will result in all unprocessed candidates being moved automatically to the next available tier of institutions for possible consideration.”
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparency, order, and fairness in the nation’s admission process.
