The Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, said the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke is fully committed to repositioning Osun’s sporting landscape.
The Osun State Government has announced the appointment of music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.
The Trust Fund is an initiative designed to raise funds and transform the state’s sports sector.
According to the Guardian Newspaper, this development was announced during a courtesy visit by the state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
The Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, said the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke is fully committed to repositioning Osun’s sporting landscape.
Davido is Governor Adeleke’s nephew.
Adewusi revealed that Davido accepted the appointment “without hesitation,” expressing confidence that the singer’s global influence and network will attract significant private-sector funding and investments into the state’s sports development.
He noted that the “introduction of a Sports Trust Fund” would help “attract support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable sports financing and development.”
The Deputy Governor also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, assuring that the upgraded facility will meet Olympic standards.
It was also announced that there are “ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards.”
The government further announced that the “project that will be completed in the shortest possible time”.
Adewusi further disclosed that plans are “in advanced stages towards the establishment of the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as a central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation.”
He expressed optimism that Davido’s leadership of the Sports Trust Fund will mark a turning point in Osun’s sports development, describing it as a strategic step toward achieving the government’s broader vision for a world-class sporting environment.
