Hundreds of residents from Bende, Abia State, Nigeria, took to the streets and converged on the local police station, October 24, 2025, to protest the brutal killing of Mr. Okorie Wisdom.
According to eyewitnesses, Wisdom was allegedly beaten to death by a Nigerian police officer on Wednesday evening for committing no offence, a development that has sparked outrage and protest against the police.
The protesters, visibly angry and distraught, demanded justice for Wisdom’s family and called for accountability from the police authorities.
A video clip of the protest @ChuksEricE shared on X handle on Saturday, shows hundreds of people including women, men and youths besieged the police station with also hundreds of armed police and military personnel surrounded the station to avoid burning it down angry residents.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and concern among the community, with many calling for an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding Wisdom’s death.

The Abia State Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. However, the People of Abia, a community-based organisation, has condemned the act of police brutality and called for the perpetrator to be brought to justice.
This incident adds to the growing list of concerns about police brutality and human rights abuses in Nigeria, especially in the South East, highlighting the need for urgent reforms and accountability within the security agencies.
