American leader Donald Trump and President Bola Tinubu
The Presidency has said that President Bola Tinubu and American leader Donald Trump will soon meet to discuss the alleged genocidal killing of Christians in Nigeria, amid rising tension over recent remarks by the U.S. leader.
Presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala announced this on Saturday night. The Nigerian government has yet to confirm the exact date or venue of the proposed meeting between the two leaders.
“Both President @officialABAT and President @realDonaldTrump have shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” said Mr Bwala. “President Trump has assisted Nigeria a lot by authorizing the sale of arms to Nigeria and President Tinubu has adequately utilized the opportunity in the fight against terrorism, for which we have massive results to show for it.”
Mr Bwala added, “As for the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or in fact all faiths and no faiths, the differences, if they exist, would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days, either in State House or White House.”
Mr Bwala’s statement comes amid the threat of a U.S. military operation on Nigerian soil by Mr Trump.
The American president over the week designated Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern’ over the wanton killings of Christians in Nigeria by several non-state actors, including killer herdsmen, bandits, and Boko Haram.
“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” said Mr Trump. “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”
