The Gidan Waya community in Kaduna State’s Lere Local Government Area has released photographs of 12 residents who were kidnapped by bandits last week.
SaharaReporters learnt that the attack was devastating, with the bandits killing four people in the community and injuring several others.
The community has confirmed that amongst the 12 people kidnapped is a minor and six other women.
The group also includes an ECWA Church Reverend and three young men.
The kidnapped victims are still being held by the bandits, and the community is appealing for their safe and immediate release.
SaharaReporters days ago reported that global human rights body, the Amnesty International condemned the deadly attack by gunmen on Gidan Waya in Yarkasuwa, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, which left four people dead and 12 others abducted, including children.
In a statement released by the international organisation, it disclosed that the attack occurred on the night of 11 November 2025, and highlights the continued failure of Nigerian authorities to protect citizens and hold perpetrators of human rights abuses accountable.
Amnesty International noted that since 2016, rural communities in parts of northern Nigeria have lived under constant threat from armed groups, forcing many farmers and their families to abandon their homes.
According to the body, “Amnesty International strongly condemns gunmen’s attack on Gidan Waya in ‘Yarkasuwa, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State in which 4 people were killed and 12 people abudcted – including children: of 13, 14 and 15-years old.
“The attack which took place in the night of yesterday 11 November 2025 is yet another indication of the stunning failure of the Nigerian authorities to protect lives and ensure accountability for all human rights crimes.
“Since, 2016 rural communties in some parts of northern Nigeria have been living at the mercy of gunmen. The violence has forced many farmers and their families to flee their homes.
“Amnesty International has been documenting the alarming escalation in attacks and abductions in several states in north west and north central Nigeria. Worst affected are villages in the Plateau, Zamfara, south of Kaduna State, Benue and Katsina.”
