The Zamfara State government has finalised plans to sponsor a mass wedding for 200 orphans, the Executive Secretary of the Zakkat and Endowment Board, Malam Habibu Balarabe, has disclosed.
Speaking to journalists in Gusau, Balarabe said the ceremony is scheduled to be held on Monday, 23 November 2025, at the Board’s premises.
He noted that all beneficiaries for the mass wedding had been carefully screened and selected.
In addition to the wedding, the Board would provide grants to 200 women engaged in small-scale businesses to support and expand their livelihoods.
Balarabe explained that 100 women had completed a three-week poultry farming training programme and would receive starter packs to begin their ventures.
He further added that the Board has made arrangements to settle selected debt cases in Shari’ah Courts and correctional centres across the state.
The Executive Secretary also revealed that some orphans have undergone computer literacy training and will receive starter packs during the ceremony.
The initiative forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable groups and enhance social welfare across Zamfara State.
Similar social welfare programmes have been implemented in other northern states.
In 2024, the Kano State Government organised a mass wedding for over 150 couples from disadvantaged backgrounds, aiming to alleviate the financial burden associated with marriage and support vulnerable communities.
