Heavily armed terrorists disguised as Nigerian soldiers attended the wedding Fatiha the Islamic marital rite of the son of a notorious bandit kingpin in Zamfara State on Friday.
The footage, shared by investigative outlet Sahara Reporters, shows a convoy of over two dozen gunmen clad in military camouflage uniforms, some wearing face masks and traditional caps, parading openly through a crowded village square adorned with white tents and festive banners.
The terrorists, brandishing AK-47 rifles and other assault weapons, mingled freely with local attendees, including women in colorful attire and men in embroidered gowns, as traditional Hausa musicians played drums in the background. No security forces were visible in the crowd, and the event proceeded without interruption, lasting several minutes as captured in the 2-minute-24-second clip.
Sources familiar with the matter identified the groom as the son of a high-profile bandit leader recently killed in a clash with rival groups, though his name was withheld for security reasons.
Zamfara, a hotspot for banditry, has been plagued by abductions, cattle rustling, and internecine warfare among criminal syndicates, often exacerbated by porous borders and alleged complicity from within security apparatus. The wedding’s location, believed to be in a rural community near Gusau, the state capital, highlights how such events have become normalized spectacles of power in the region.
