In a tense moment during the Nigerian Senate’s screening of Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd) for the position of Minister of Defence, a lawmaker delivered a stark warning: failure to deliver results within six months could lead to a recommendation for his dismissal.

The dramatic exchange unfolded on Wednesday as the Senate commenced the confirmation hearing for Musa, the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), nominated by President Bola Tinubu to replace Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned citing health reasons.
The nomination, announced just days ago, comes amid escalating security challenges in Nigeria, including kidnappings, banditry, and insurgency in the northeast.
Video footage from the session, shared widely on social media, captured the senator’s pointed remarks directed at Musa, emphasizing accountability in tackling the nation’s insecurity. “We will recommend your dismissal if you don’t deliver in 6 months,” the senator stated, underscoring the urgency for swift action on security reforms.
Musa, a seasoned military officer from Plateau State and a member of the 38th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy, served as CDS from June 2023 until his retirement in October 2025.
During the screening, he pledged to investigate high-profile incidents, including the death of a general in Maiduguri and the alleged troop withdrawal prior to the abduction of students in Kebbi State.
He also committed to enhancing inter-service cooperation and restoring public confidence in the armed forces.
