President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday met separately with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Ebonyi State counterpart, Francis Nwifuru, at the State House, Abuja.
Fubara was the first to have a closed-door meeting with the President.
He arrived at about 5:01 p.m. and was received by the Presidential Protocol Liaison Officer before proceeding to the President’s office.
There was no official statement on the purpose of his visit.
However, findings revealed that Rivers State has been embroiled in a fresh power tussle following the defection of 17 members of the State House of Assembly loyal to former governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, is aligned with his colleagues who recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The national secretariat of the party has also reportedly been polarised into factions.
Governor Nwifuru, an APC governor, has had several engagements with President Tinubu in recent times, largely focused on infrastructure development and security coordination in the South-East region.
