An FCT High Court has ordered the service of papers of a defamation suit against the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Justice M.A. Hassan, who made the order on Tuesday while ruling on an ex parte application, ordered that the processes be pasted on the gate of the FCT Administration in Garki, Abuja.
The suit was brought by a former governorship candidate in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, demanding the sum of N40bn over an alleged defamatory comment the minister made during a live broadcast on Channels TV’s “Politics Today” on September 18.
According to his counsel, Jibrin Okutepa (SAN), in the said interview, Wike made comments suggesting financial impropriety and mismanagement of Rivers State’s resources on Rivers State Gas and the Olympia Hotel.
The former candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is contending that Wike’s comments were defamatory, false, malicious, offensive and damaging to his reputation in personal, professional and public capacities as they imputed dishonesty and wrongdoing, gravely injuring his standing both nationally and internationally.
The suit was adjourned to March 24, 2026, for hearing.
