Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a China-based Nigerian businessman and two Angolan nationals who excreted a total of 236 wraps of cocaine after being apprehended at airports in Abuja and Kano.
The suspects were intercepted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport during separate operations on February 4, 2026.
A 34-year-old businessman, Ibeanu Vincent Chukwudulue, was arrested while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight from Kano to China via Abuja and Doha.
According to Femi Babafemi, NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, in a statement on Sunday, the agency’s operatives subjected him to a body scan, which confirmed ingestion of illicit drugs.
He was subsequently placed under observation and excreted 52 pellets of cocaine weighing 735.95 grams. Ibeanu reportedly told investigators he had relocated to Guangzhou, China, in 2024 after previously operating a business on Lagos Island.
On the same day in Kano, two Angolan nationals, identified as Mbandu Martins Makiadi, 50, and Ngoma Wilson Fernando, 52, were intercepted at the departure hall while preparing to travel to Istanbul via Addis Ababa.
Body scans confirmed they had ingested narcotics. Under observation, Mbandu excreted 76 wraps weighing 920 grams, while Ngoma expelled 108 pellets weighing 1.33 kilograms.
The Angolan suspects reportedly said they were recruited by an automobile spare parts dealer in Luanda, who promised to pay them $3,000 each upon successful delivery of the drugs in Turkey.
“During interview, the suspects who hail from Hoji Ya Henda in Luanda, the capital of Angola claimed they were recruited by a Luanda-based automobile spare parts dealer who promised to pay them $3000 each upon successful delivery of the consignments in Turkey,” the statement said.
NDLEA said investigations are ongoing.
