Amid killings of hundreds of residents and many others taken hostage by terrorists in Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq pledged to deliver the Federal Capital Territory to President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming election.
In early February, terrorists attacked Woro and nearby Nuku village in Kwara State’s Kaiama Local Government Area, killing at least 162 people, injuring dozens, and kidnapping many others.
Amid the insecurity and incessant killings and kidnappings in Kwara State, Governor AbdulRazaq appeared in a campaign video addressing party stakeholders in Abuja on efforts to secure electoral success for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the FCT.
AbdulRazaq said this while inaugurating the APC FCT Council Election Campaign Council in Abuja on Friday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed February 21 for the FCT Area Council elections.
Meanwhile, the 138-member APC FCT Campaign Council will be chaired by Governor AbdulRazaq of Kwara.
Assuring party leaders of coordinated mobilisation, the governor said: “On behalf of the excellencies and many other esteemed colleagues on the committee, I assure the President and our party leaders that we will work as a team with local stakeholders and committee influencers to deliver FCT to the APC.
“On behalf of the members, distinguished members of this committee, I express a gratitude to the leadership of our party for the privilege to serve in this capacity.”
Referring to the administration of President Tinubu, he stated: “I’ve seen President Tinubu, the leader of our party, take courageous and patriotic steps to put our economy on a strong footing, strike necessary partnerships to defeat terrorism, strengthen our standing in the committee of states and do everything possible to ensure the dividends of democracy trickles down to the remotest corner of our country.”
Expressing confidence in voter turnout in the territory, he said: “I’m confident that the good people of the Federal Capital Territory across the six council areas will come out to align with our party and show truly that APC is not just the party of now but also the reputable vessel to Nigeria’s progress and sustainable future.”
On Saturday, the media reported that suspected Boko Haram terrorists, formally known as Jama’atu Ahlissunnah Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, had released a disturbing video in which they paraded 176 abducted victims, including women, children and a nursing mother, allegedly seized from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
In the video obtained by SaharaReporters, one of the terrorists is seen interrogating the captives, asking them to state where they were kidnapped.
Responding in Hausa language, three women, including a nursing mother, answered one after the other that they were abducted at Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The footage shows dozens of women and children standing in rows, many of them visibly distressed.
Their clothes appeared dirty and worn, while several of the children were seen without trousers, underscoring the harsh conditions under which they are being held.
While parading the victims, one of the terrorists openly accused the Kwara State government of deliberately misleading Nigerians and the international community over the scale of the abductions.
In the video, the terrorist claimed that the state government lied by reporting that only 20 to 30 people were kidnapped, insisting that the actual number of captives in their custody was 176.
“The Kwara State government lied to Nigeria and to the whole world,” the terrorist said, insisting that the number of abducted persons was far higher than officially acknowledged.
Kwara State has reported multiple incidents of violence in recent months.
Between January and November 2025 alone, more than 207 people were reportedly killed and at least 177 abducted across several local government areas, including Ifelodun, Patigi, Edu, Ekiti, Isin and Kaiama.
Other security breaches have included attacks on rural communities leading to deaths and abductions, as well as raids on isolated settlements that forced families to flee their homes.
