The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed confirmed arrest in a statement on Saturday evening said that the suspects identified as Izuchukwu Aniebue aged 42 and Kingsley Nduka aged 32, were arrested when they trailed their victim to his residence in the premises of Association of Senior Civil Servant of Nigeria (ASCSN) along Mariam Babangida road Asaba.
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested criminal syndicates who specialised in monitoring customers who withdraw huge sum of money from banks and carting away their money and other valuables.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed confirmed arrest in a statement on Saturday evening said that the suspects identified as Izuchukwu Aniebue aged 42 and Kingsley Nduka aged 32, were arrested when they trailed their victim to his residence in the premises of Association of Senior Civil Servant of Nigeria (ASCSN) along Mariam Babangida road Asaba.
“Sequel to series of complaints by residents in Asaba and other parts of the State about a criminal syndicate that monitors customers who withdraw huge sum of money from banks, trail them, break into their vehicles at the slightest opportunity and cart away their money and other valuables.
“The Command’s crack squad acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Izuchukwu Aniebue ‘m’ age 42yrs and Kingsley Nduka ‘m’ age 32yrs, in the premises of Association of Senior Civil Servant of Nigeria (ASCSN) along Mariam Babangida road Asaba.
“The suspects trailed the unsuspecting victim from one of the new generation banks at Nnebisi road, Asaba, where he went to withdraw some money, they followed him to his house but before they could break into the vehicle, the police operatives rounded them up and arrested the suspects.
“During interrogation, the suspects stated that they belong to a syndicate that specializes in trailing customers after making withdrawals from banks around Asaba to their destinations and thereafter break into their vehicles, cart away their money and other valuables,and that they have been doing this for the past one year . Investigation is ongoing,” Edafe stated.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that in another development, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Issele-uku Division, CSP Onyeke Ezekiel, acting on an intelligence, mobilised and led a team of policemen on investigation about a syndicate that had been terrorising Issele-uku and other areas in Aniocha-North Local Government Area.
The team stormed the suspected criminals’ hideout where three suspects identified as Samuel Nimven; Ponfa Dandi and John Tanko, all from Plateau State in the Northern region of Nigeria but resident in Aniocha-North LGA, Delta state were arrested.
The PPRO said that “Upon searching the suspects, one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle with three live ammunition was recovered from them,” adding that investigation was ongoing.
