Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu on Thursday inaugurated the National Economic Council.
It was learnt that the council will be headed by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
The President reiterated that his administration would focus on eight priority areas namely security, economy, job creation, agriculture, infrastructure, fuel subsidy, monetary policy, and foreign policy.
Recall that in order to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal on Nigerians, President Tinubu directed NEC to begin the process of providing palliatives.
Tinubu gave the directive while meeting with some major oil marketers led by Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun at the State House in Abuja last Wednesday.
Tinubu during his inaugural speech on May 29 at the Eagle Square in Abuja announced the removal of subsidy payment on petrol.
Due to this announcement, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited adjusted the pump price to reflect the current international price.
The president has therefore saddled the newly inaugurated NEC with the responsibility of ensuring the management of the economic crisis rocking the most populous African nation.
