A recently released book recounts the actions of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, shedding light on how he ‘mistakenly’ approved $10 million for the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET).
The contract, intended for the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) Limited, was brought to light through the encounter between former NBET managing director Marilyn Amobi and President Buhari.
This revelation was made in a book titled “Working with Buhari,” written by former presidential media aide, Femi Adesina.
The book unfolds a scenario where Buhari approved the contract, which turned out to be a Partial Risk Guarantee (PRG) from the World Bank.
The $10 million deal was for Accugas to supply natural gas to Calabar Generation Company Limited which was in the portfolio of the NDPHC.
Notably, Buhari attributed the error to his advisers when Amobi brought the mistake to his attention in a note.
Despite this disclosure, the book falls short of detailing any repercussions or sanctions against Buhari’s advisers for the erroneous advice.
The incident adds to recent controversies surrounding Buhari’s administration, including the revelation by former SGF Boss Mustapha about the alleged forgery of Buhari’s signature to withdraw over $6 million from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The funds were purportedly utilized to pay foreign election observers during the 2023 general elections.
