No fewer than 21 persons including a village head were reportedly killed in an attack by bandits in Niger State, near Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.
SaharaReporters learnt that on Thursday, the bandits stormed a market at Madaka village in the Rafi Local Government Area of the state and opened fire indiscriminately, killing 21 persons.
The bandits also burnt down the market, a clinic and several vehicles, according to the district head of Madaka, Idris Bawale.
“They stormed our village yesterday, being a market day at about 3pm and opened fire on people while transacting businesses.
“Twenty-one persons including the village head were killed. The bandits also set fire to the market, burning vehicles, including motorcycles, worth over N30 million. A clinic was also torched.
“They kidnapped several people, mostly women,” Bawale said.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the police command in Niger State, DSP Wasiu Abiodun could not confirm the incident.
He said, “I’m in a meeting, will verify and revert, please.”
