The NIDCom Chairman and CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who made this known in a statement issued by the commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, had said the girls were rescued on Monday.
The two Nigerian girls who were trafficked to Ghana for prostitution but were rescued on Monday by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCom) have narrated their ordeals in the hands of their traffickers.
Gistcore earlier reported that NIDCom on Tuesday said it rescued two Nigerian girls who were trafficked to Ghana for prostitution.
The NIDCom Chairman and CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who made this known in a statement issued by the commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, had said the girls were rescued on Monday.
Dabiri-Erewa said the two girls whose rescue operation was facilitated by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Ghana, under the leadership of the Chairman, BOT, Chief Calistus, are currently in safe custody.
An official of NIDO explained that one of the girls ran to the Redeemeded Christian Church of God on Sunday during service and narrated her ordeals.
The official said, “She ran to the church and while she was there, she narrated her ordeals, how she was brought to Ghana about two months ago by one lady who lives in Ghana.
“When they brought them, they told them that they had a supermarket where she would work and they would pay her salary, without her knowing that they brought her for prostitution.
“She refused to go into prostitution because according to her, her father is a pastor and she said it is against her belief and the integrity of her family.
“But they told her that if she wanted to go back, she must pay N1.5million. She told them she didn’t have that amount of money. She asked for an opportunity to reach her parents to raise the money but they refused. They seized her phone, locked them up and made them swear an oath never to run away or they would run mad.
“They stripped them naked and took pictures of their nakedness and threatened to put it on the internet if they tried to run away. But because she was not comfortable with the situation, she ran to the church.
“Fortunately the church called for their rescue. I swiftly moved to the place and rescued her, she took me to the apartment. The intent was to arrest the culprit but unfortunately she was not there, then we discovered the second lady who was also crying there.
“At the time we got there, she confirmed she had not eaten because she said that if you refuse to do prostitution, they will starve you to make sure they subject you into accepting to go into that slavery.”
Narrating her ordeal, one of the rescued girls said, “I was at home one afternoon when a friend of mine came to me and said there are job opportunities in Ghana.
“We don’t have jobs in Nigeria and we have families to take care of, so we decided to go. They told us we were going to work in a supermarket but on getting here, we found out that it was prostitution.
“We wanted to leave before things got worse but they cut our hair and did a naked video of us, saying that if we tried to run, they would make us mad or they would post our naked video on the internet.
“They make us dress half-naked and it is not as if we were comfortable. We eat at 6pm and we will not eat again till 6pm the next day.”
On how they got to Ghana from Lagos, she said “When we got to Mile 12, they crossed us through the water. The name of the person who transported us is Oga Sunny. Their station is at Mile 2, close to FESTAC town.
“After we crossed the water, he (Oga Sunny) handed us over to another person at the bus stop. We passed Ghanaian police and immigration but I don’t know the magic they did. It seems they have connections or something like that. I can’t really explain but we landed here.”
She said they did not have passports and that immigration did not interrogate them to find out where they were going.
“When we got to Accra, Miss Nelly and Nickky came to pick us. When we got to the house the first day, we didn’t go to the road but on the second day they asked us to go to the road.
“She even made us swear by the Bible, if not, I would have run since. Even the Bible does not support such but she has our hair that she cuts and the naked videos. I decided to run because I believe there is nothing God cannot do.”
The girls said they were over 30 people in the apartment and the NIDO official therefore called on the NIDCom Chairman for more assistance to rescue the remaining girls and arrest the culprit.
