The four Nigerian students are; Adebimpe Oluwapelumi, Safiya Ibrahim, Ogaji Deborah, and Ibrahim Wando.
Four students from Government Secondary School in Wuye, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja will be representing Nigeria at the Africa Energy Week Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.
The event is scheduled to hold from 4th – 8th November, 2024, according to a statement jointly signed on Friday by ExxonMobil Foundation, Junior Achievement Africa and Junior Achievement Nigeria.
The four Nigerian students are; Adebimpe Oluwapelumi, Safiya Ibrahim, Ogaji Deborah, and Saffiya Ibrahim Wando.
According to the statement, the students were selected at an event that gathered 120 young innovators from Abuja and which centered on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and innovation, creating a transformative experience for all participants.
“The STEM Africa Innovation Camp, sponsored by ExxonMobil Foundation, provided students with opportunities to engage in various sessions, such as panel discussions, design thinking workshops, ideation, pitching, speed mentorship, and more.
“The Panel Session moderated by Tobiloba Olaosun, Marketing Manager, Junior Achievement Nigeria, included ExxonMobil employees; Patience Enahoro, Ukeme Utuk, and Vivian Ihejirika, who shared their insights with participants.
“Industry experts from ExxonMobil also served as mentors, guiding the students, and offering valuable insights on problem-solving, critical thinking, and career pathways in STEM.
“Teams were assigned real-life challenges and worked to create innovative solutions for a greener economy. These solutions were presented to a panel of judges, with a top team emerging as the winner. The winning team comprised four students from Government Secondary School, Wuye: Adebimpe Oluwapelumi, Safiya Ibrahim, Ogaji Deborah, and Saffiya Ibrahim Wando.
“The ExxonMobil STEM Innovation Camp has left a lasting impression on us. We commend the students for their dedication and perseverance throughout the Kahoot Quiz phase, Zonal Quizzes, and Innovation Camp,” stated Olaolu Akogun, Acting Executive Director at Junior Achievement Nigeria.
“We are confident that this camp has motivated these young leaders to pursue careers in STEM fields and become influential figures in their communities. We look forward to seeing the innovative solutions that these talented participants will develop in the future.
