The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced measures aimed at maintaining public order and safety ahead of the August 1 nationwide protest.
According to a statement released by the Nigerian Air Force and obtained through PIDOMNIGERIA, intelligence reports (INTREP), the NAF said it is preparing for the possibility of widespread civil unrest.
This has prompted the need for enhanced security measures across all units to mitigate any potential breakdown of law and order, NAF added.
“In line with these measures, communication units within the Nigerian Air Force have been instructed to intensify their efforts. They are mandated to immediately enforce a ban on all leaves to ensure optimal readiness.
“Furthermore, communication units are tasked with reviewing and forwarding comprehensive plans (CONPLANS) specifically designed to address scenarios involving violent nationwide protests,” the air force said.
Additionally, the statement highlighted the importance of continuous monitoring within their Area of Responsibility (AOR). Communication units are required to submit daily situation reports (SITREP) to headquarters, ensuring real-time assessment of the evolving situation from July 24.

The announcement comes amid growing concerns over the potential impact of unresolved socio-economic issues on national stability, and challenges stemming from unresolved issues surrounding minimum wage.
When media called the Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, he said the ban on-pass or non-essential travels were nothing unusual for any organisation, including the NAF.
“Such bans can emanate from units under the NAF or from the Hq for reasons best suited for such bans. If a ban is aimed at ensuring personnel are readily available to safeguard the lives and properties of law-abiding civilians, what then is wrong with that?” he said.
