A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has issued a ruling removing Tony Okocha and other members of the caretaker committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from their positions in Rivers State.
The court’s decision orders Okocha and other members of the caretaker committee, who were appointed by the APC’s National Working Committee, to cease presenting themselves as the committee’s chairman and members.
The court, led by Justice Aprioku Sika, reinstated the Emeka-led executive members who had been dismissed by the National Working Committee (NWC).
Tony Okocha, the Caretaker Chairman of the APC, is known to be a supporter of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Wike played a key role in Okocha’s appointment as Rivers State’s representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
In contrast, Beke is aligned with Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor and former Minister of Transportation.
Justice Sika ordered Okocha and others to refrain from taking any action or interfering with the affairs of the APC State Executive led by Emeka Beke until the end of their four-year term.
Justice Sika ruled that Tony Okocha’s appointment, along with six others as State APC Chairman and Caretaker Committee members, violated the party’s constitution and that there was no justification for their removal.
The judge, however, imposed a cost of N300,000 on the defendants.
