An irate mob has killed a man identified as Sharahu Haruna in Gidan Katakare, Zamfara State, over accusations of witchcraft levelled against him by one of his relatives.
The incident occurred reportedly around 10:30 p.m. on Friday when tensions erupted in the community over claims that Haruna Lawali, a relative of the deceased, had bewitched a woman named Nafisa Masa’udu.
According to security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the irate mob gathered at Lawali’s residence demanding an explanation for the alleged spiritual assault.

Police officers from the Birnin Magaji Division reportedly responded swiftly to the scene after being alerted.
The incident was documented, and Haruna’s body was released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack has been launched, with authorities focusing on the role of the local community.
“The role of the community in the attack is under scrutiny,” a source familiar with the matter was quoted as saying.
However, efforts to get the reaction of the Zamfara State Police Command failed as calls made to the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Yazid Abubakar, did not go through.
