A joyous occasion turned tragic yesterday as the husband of Deaconess Catherine Adejoke Akinyele collapsed and passed away during her 60th birthday thanksgiving celebration. The event, held at Christ Apostolic Church Oke-Iyanu in Odemuyiwa District Headquarters, 31/33 Odemuyiwa Road, Seliat B/Stop, Egbeda, Lagos State, Nigeria, was meant to honor the esteemed deaconess on her milestone birthday.

The celebration began with a thanksgiving service at 11:30 a.m., attended by family, friends, and members of the church community. Guests, dressed in the designated color code of white with lilac caps for men and lilac on lilac for women, filled the venue with warmth and celebration. Following the service, the reception was held immediately at Noble Castle Events Centre, located opposite Iron Market, Igando, Lagos State, Nigeria, where attendees gathered to continue the festivities.
Eyewitnesses report that the atmosphere was filled with love and gratitude as Deaconess Catherine Adejoke Akinyele was celebrated for her contributions to the church and community. However, the mood shifted dramatically during the reception when her husband suddenly collapsed. Despite immediate efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of his collapse has not yet been confirmed, though sources close to the family suggest he may have suffered a sudden medical emergency.
