The release of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has sparked widespread reaction across Nigeria. Of the 1.9 million candidates who sat for the exam, only about 12,000 scored 300 and above—representing just 0.63% of total candidates. In contrast, over 1.5 million students scored below 200, raising concerns about a sharp nationwide drop in performance.
While many candidates have expressed frustration over unexpectedly low scores and have called for a review of the examination process, students at Greater Tomorrow International College in Arigidi Akoko, Ondo State have defied the odds. Several SS3 students from the school scored above 300, standing out in what has been a challenging year for most candidates.
Topping the school’s performance chart is Obey King David, who emerged with an exceptional score of 355. His subject breakdown includes 98 in Mathematics, 94 in Physics, 92 in Chemistry, and 71 in English Language. His result is one of the highest recorded in the country so far.
The school’s outstanding results have drawn praise and attention, offering a glimpse of academic excellence amid nationwide concerns. In a year when many are questioning the fairness and integrity of the examination process, Obey King David’s achievement serves as a powerful reminder of what is still possible through dedication and preparation.
