The 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Senator Aishatu Ahmed, popularly known as Binani, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Binani’s media aide, Maulud Usman, confirmed that she arrived in Yola over the weekend and announced her switch to the ADC in the company of her close political allies and associates.
“It wasn’t planned as an elaborate event, and there was no media invite, but the declaration has been made,” Usman said, adding that a more formal event to officially announce her new political affiliation is being planned.
Her defection comes just days after the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, also formally joined the ADC.
Binani, who represented Adamawa Central in the Senate from 2019 to 2023, made history in 2022 by defeating five male aspirants to clinch the APC governorship ticket.
She later lost narrowly to the incumbent governor, Ahmadu Fintiri of the PDP, in the general election.
