According to the police, the suspect later used the stolen phone to contact the boy’s father, demanding a ransom of N5million for the child’s release.
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a security guard, identified as Amos Kini, for allegedly abducting a two-year-old boy in the Elemoro area of the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, who made this known in a statement issued on Monday said the incident occurred on September 21, 2025, around 11:50pm.
Adebisi said the child’s mother reported to the Elemoro Police Division that Kini, employed as her security guard, had fled with her son and her mobile phone without consent.
According to the police, the suspect later used the stolen phone to contact the boy’s father, demanding a ransom of N5million for the child’s release.
However, police operatives swiftly launched an investigation and “The scene was promptly visited and documented, one Aruna Dauda (male), who stood as guarantor for the suspect before his employment, was taken in for questioning.”
Adebisi stated that as pressure mounted, officers sustained surveillance and intelligence-led operations that forced the suspect to release the child unharmed.
The manhunt continued until “On 23rd September, 2025, at about 1400hrs, operatives of the Tactical Squad (Hyena), acting on credible intelligence, successfully tracked and arrested Amos Kini at his hideout within the Elemoro area.
“The suspect has since confessed to the crime and remains in police custody. He will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the police added.
The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, condemned the act, describing it as a “callous and unacceptable crime against an innocent child.”
The CP reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling violent and capital crimes across Lagos.
Jimoh further urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and called on residents to promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
