According to Fasakin, the late Okpe, who had served as the image maker of the command for several years, passed away in her hometown in Cross River State after battling an undisclosed ailment.
The Public Education Officer of the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Chief Route Commander Florence Okpe, has died after a prolonged illness.
Her death was confirmed on Tuesday by the State Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin.
According to Fasakin, the late Okpe, who had served as the image maker of the command for several years, passed away in her hometown in Cross River State after battling an undisclosed ailment.
The sector commander said, “We lost Okpe this morning, Tuesday; her family has confirmed the sad news. She had been sick for a while and attending the clinic here in Ogun until she was given medical leave, after which she travelled to her hometown in Cross River State, where she eventually died.
“Okpe was no doubt an enigma, a very sound, resourceful and professional officer of unparalleled dedication to duty. I have sincerely lost a very dutiful officer. She was very dear to me, and it’s been a sad day since we were told of her death.
“The command commiserates with her family and loved ones and pray that the Almighty God will grant all of us the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.”
The corps had ordered an immediate investigation into a viral video showing a heated confrontation between its officers and a driver along Abudu, Edo State.
The video, circulating on social media, appears to show a driver physically confronting uniformed FRSC personnel during a routine traffic stop.
According to a background voice in the video, the altercation allegedly stemmed from the motorist’s refusal to give the officers money.
Reacting to the video, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasising that the corps did not condone unprofessional conduct.
“The circumstances surrounding the confrontation will be thoroughly examined, and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken against any officer found culpable,” Mohammed stated in a statement issued on Sunday through the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide.
“He emphasised that the Corps does not condone any form of unprofessional conduct or behaviour that undermines the integrity and discipline for which the FRSC is known.
“He further assured members of the public that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken against any officer found culpable, in line with the Corps’ operational guidelines and public service rules,” the statement read.
The FRSC has appealed for calm and cooperation from the motoring public, assuring that its officers are committed to ensuring safer roads and protecting lives nationwide.
“While the FRSC remains steadfast in its mission to promote road safety, maintain order, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in service delivery, the corps marshal will also not tolerate any form of assault or violence against its personnel from members of the public in the course of duty,” the statement added.
