The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that train operations on the Warri-Itakpe corridor will resume on Wednesday, following the successful restoration of the rail track that was damaged in Sunday’s derailment incident near Agbor, Delta State.

In a statement signed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kayode Opeifa, the NRC confirmed the arrest of two suspects believed to be responsible for the vandalism that led to the derailment.

The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Mudansuru Mutari and 39-year-old Blorie Kokori, were apprehended around Kilometer 208 before Abraka, Delta State, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

The arrests were made by operatives of the NRC Police Command in collaboration with local security agents.

According to the NRC, preliminary investigations and confessional statements from the suspects revealed their direct involvement in tampering with key rail components, including fasteners and clips, which compromised the integrity of the track.

Opeifa commended the Railway Police Command and local security networks for their prompt and coordinated response, stressing that the suspects would face the full weight of the law for sabotaging national infrastructure and endangering lives.

He described the act of vandalism as “economic sabotage and a grave threat to national security,” reaffirming NRC’s zero-tolerance policy toward such crimes.

He further noted that the Corporation will continue to work closely with security agencies to apprehend and prosecute all individuals involved in railway vandalism.

In a related development, Dr. Opeifa announced that the re-railment and restoration of the affected portion of the Warri-Itakpe track were completed on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

Following a comprehensive safety inspection and operational audit, normal train services are set to resume on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

The NRC boss reassured passengers and stakeholders of the Corporation’s commitment to safety, reliability, and improved service delivery.

He also revealed plans to intensify surveillance, deploy advanced security technologies, and strengthen community partnerships along all railway corridors.

“The Corporation appreciates the patience and understanding of passengers and the general public during the brief suspension period,” he added.
