“You’re Very Irresponsible” — Fayose Blasts Obasanjo in ‘Thank You’ Message After Ex-President Attends His 65th Birthday

Former Ekiti governor Ayodele Fayose sends a scathing SMS to Olusegun Obasanjo, accusing him of “belonging to the zoo,” as the former president issues a calm but pointed response.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has issued a harshly worded “thank you” message to former President Olusegun Obasanjo after the elder statesman attended his 65th birthday celebration.

According to Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Fayose sent the message via SMS on Monday evening, accusing the former president of making “very irresponsible comments” at the event and declaring that he “belongs to the zoo.”

Akinyemi released the full text of the exchange to journalists in Abeokuta.

Fayose’s message read in part:

“Dear Baba Obasanjo, I trust this meets you well. Your coming to my birthday party, I appreciate, except for your very irresponsible comments at your age. You went so low but I am not surprised because someone once said you are supposed to be kept away in the zoo. Sincerely that’s where you belong.”

He added that he refrained from responding during the event “so that the world will know the difference between a sane and a mad man,” accusing Obasanjo of showing “heightened stage of dementia.” Fayose further demanded that the ex-president return money he claimed to have received.

Obasanjo, in a brief reaction, replied:

“Ayo, thanks for your ‘Thank You’ message which undisguisedly revealed who and what you are, unchanged and unchangeable. Your money has been sent back through Foluso Adeagbo who brought it and in the same bag as he brought it, unopened by me.”

The exchange has since stirred public interest, marking another chapter in the long-running friction between both political figures.
